To me hurricanes have always just seemed like really heavy thunderstorms. Growing up in Florida I have had my fair share of experiences with hurricanes and I have always been taught that they are far less dangerous if you simply prepare for it. If you stock up on supplies like non-perishable food, water, cash, and gas then you should be prepared enough to weather most storms. Also I have always paid close attention to the news when there is an incoming hurricane because being prepared can sometimes only take you so far.
